The Party Boys – The Party Boys (CBS 460485 1, 1987)

Original Australian 1987 CBS pressing of The Party Boys' self-titled album — a particularly interesting surviving copy, having acquired genuine period Australian rock memorabilia during its life.

Included Ephemera

  • Two The Party Boys “GUEST” passes attached to the rear sleeve, both handwritten “Sunday / Tivoli.” The Party Boys are documented as having performed at The Tivoli in Sydney on Sunday 30 August 1987, during the band's most commercially successful period. The association is strongly consistent with the surviving passes, although the exact history of this individual record cannot be independently verified.
  • Period business card for Paul Dutton, South Australian Promotions Manager, CBS Records Australia Limited, Adelaide. The card was found stored with the LP and is included with the sale. No claim is made that the card proves ownership or a direct connection to the Tivoli performance.
  • Original $14.99 retail price sticker retained on sleeve.

Album Significance

The 1987 line-up represented The Party Boys' most successful period, featuring John “Swanee” Swan, Kevin Borich, John Brewster, Alan Lancaster, Richard Harvey and Paul Christie. Their recording of He's Gonna Step On You Again reached No. 1 in Australia; the self-titled album reached No. 18.

A live recording of The Party Boys at the Tivoli in 1987 is preserved by the Australian Road Crew Association, including several tracks from this LP: Hold Your Head Up, Gloria, Small Talk, High Voltage and He's Gonna Step On You.
