Alessi Spirale Ashtray (7690) – Achille Castiglioni | Stainless Steel | 1990s

A genuine piece of Italian design history. The Alessi 7690 Spirale Ashtray was designed by Achille Castiglioni — one of the great figures of 20th-century Italian industrial design — in the 1970s and adopted by Alessi in 1986 with modifications to its shape and size. One example is held in the permanent collection at MoMA, New York. This production example dates from the 1990s, crafted in gleaming 18/10 stainless steel and marked Alessi INOX 18/10 Italy. In very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and careful use — no defects.

Originally derived from a silvered metal design produced by Bacci in Bologna, Castiglioni’s Spirale embodies his lifelong love of elegant practicality and the pleasures of beautifully designed everyday objects. A wonderful display piece for design collectors, Alessi enthusiasts, and admirers of mid-century Italian modernism.
