Vintage Japanese Anthropomorphic Bird Ceramics Trio c.1950s–60s
A wonderfully eccentric group of genuine vintage Japanese anthropomorphic bird ceramics, dating approximately to the 1950s–60s.
The trio brings together two characterful chick-shaped egg cups and a larger lidded novelty jar with an extraordinary sculptural bird handle. All three pieces are marked JAPAN and share the pastel glazing, hand-painted facial details and whimsical anthropomorphic styling associated with mid-century Japanese export ceramics.
The yellow and green chicks have oversized expressive faces, tiny wings and painted feet, while the larger cream-toned vessel features blue trim, a lidded top, painted bird motif and an attached long-necked bird forming the handle.
They were collected together for their matching period, country of origin and visual style and are not represented as an original factory set.

Condition
Good vintage condition with age-related wear.
Both chick egg cups have small chips/nibbles around the beak or rim areas. The larger lidded piece has a small chip to the underside foot rim, clearly photographed. Minor glaze and paint variation, manufacturing irregularities and general wear are consistent with age.
No major cracks have been observed.

Provenance Note
Dating note: Each piece is marked Japan. Their form, glazing and anthropomorphic novelty styling are consistent with Japanese export ceramics commonly dated to the mid-20th century. Comparable Japanese bird egg cups are regularly catalogued as 1950s–60s pieces, but no surviving maker's label or model number has been identified on this group; the date is therefore given as an informed approximate range rather than an exact manufacture date.
